SideEye Privacy Policy

Last updated:

SideEye is provided by Standridge Software LLC ("Standridge Software," "we," or "us"), based in Colorado, United States. SideEye is offered in the United States and internationally. This policy explains information handled by the SideEye app, its widget and Live Activities, and information you send us for support. Standridge Software is the controller of support correspondence and personal information you send us: we decide why and how to use it for the purposes described here.

For privacy questions or requests about your information, contact privacy@standridgesoftware.com. For general support, visit SideEye support or email support@standridgesoftware.com.

1. The essentials

SideEye analyzes nearby Bluetooth signals and saves History on your device. The app does not require a SideEye account or provide its own cloud synchronization. It has no advertising or third-party analytics SDK and does not collect an advertising identifier or track your activity across other companies' apps and websites.

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information for any purpose. We do not disclose personal information for advertising or data brokerage. Necessary disclosures are limited to providing the services described in this policy, carrying out your instructions, or complying with legal requirements. These include requests to online map services, correspondence handled by Zoho Mail, files sent to destinations you choose, and information required by a valid legal obligation.

SideEye does not automatically send your Bluetooth observations, History, motion readings, or its local diagnostic journals to Standridge Software. Online maps, searches, route planning, map downloads, and App Store services involve the separate requests described below. Files you share and device backups are also separate from local processing.

SideEye does not request microphone, camera, contacts, photo-library, or health-record access. Alert sounds and spoken directions do not record audio.

2. Bluetooth signals and History

With Bluetooth permission and scanning enabled, SideEye listens to public Bluetooth Low Energy advertisements. Scanning is enabled by default and can continue in the background when iOS delivers advertisements. You can turn Scanning off in the app. SideEye does not pair with nearby devices or connect to them to read private content.

Observations include identifiers assigned by iOS, advertised names, manufacturer and service information, signal strength, and observation times. Drone Remote ID broadcasts can include aircraft or operator identifiers, aircraft and operator positions, altitude, movement, and other broadcast messages. An identifier is not proof of a person's identity. Public broadcasts can still contain personal information.

The app processes these observations locally to classify signals, estimate proximity, display nearby devices, provide alerts and Locate guidance, and recognize repeat signals. Classifications and distance or bearing estimates do not establish who owns a device, whether someone is recording, or anyone's intentions.

History saves selected detection details: signal identifiers and names, first and last observations, signal-strength samples, classification evidence, and confidence. It also keeps monitoring coverage and repeat-signal information. Saved drone summaries contain selected broadcast details and relative distance and bearing; they do not contain the full broadcast stream or the exact aircraft and operator coordinates. Recent detailed broadcasts are held temporarily in memory and can be included in an export you request.

Preferences, custom detection signatures, muted or ignored signals, and ignored repeat-signal patterns are also stored locally. Alert timing and duplicate-alert records retain signal identifiers and timestamps separately from History. We have no remote access to this local History or these preferences through SideEye.

3. Location and motion

SideEye uses your location for map positioning and navigation. While scanning in the foreground, it also requests a location fix when a fresh drone broadcast provides coordinates, so it can calculate the drone's distance and bearing relative to your phone. This calculation happens on your device.

Route planning uses the selected origin and destination. Navigation can start automatically when your route search produces one clear route. While navigation is active, location updates and spoken guidance can continue with the app in the background or the phone locked. Rerouting can automatically make further map and routing requests. Stop navigation to end that navigation session.

Locate uses device motion and step information during its guided turn and when displaying or refining a saved bearing for a signal that is still advertising. SideEye processes this information locally. Requesting Motion permission in Settings performs a brief step-information query whose result is discarded.

You can manage Bluetooth, Location, Motion & Fitness, and notification permissions in iOS Settings. Features that need a denied permission will be limited. Declining location permission does not prevent online map display or place searches from contacting their providers.

Apple also operates system Location Services under your device settings. Its separate processing is explained in Location Services & Privacy.

4. Maps, searches, routes, and downloads

When your device contacts an online service, that service receives your IP address and request and connection information. An IP address can reveal an approximate location. Geographic requests can reveal places you are viewing or planning to visit. These requests do not include your Bluetooth History.

Apple Maps. Online maps and place searches use Apple services. Requests include the viewed or searched area and search text; searches can be sent as you type. When SideEye requests directions from Apple, it sends the route origin and destination; rerouting can send an updated origin. See Apple Maps & Privacy for Apple's handling of its services.

OpenStreetMap data through Overpass. SideEye contacts the independently operated service at overpass-api.de to download saved map areas and obtain additional road or surveillance coverage for route planning. Requests contain geographic boundaries and the types of map features needed. Route planning and rerouting can make these requests automatically, including requests for areas around or along your intended route. The service receives your IP address and request information. Its public-service documentation describes IP-based usage limits. Overpass operates separately from Standridge Software; OpenStreetMap attribution does not identify who operates this server.

Offline maps. Viewing and routing within downloaded coverage use local map data. Downloads and Apple-powered search or directions still contact their respective services. Selecting a downloaded map does not put the whole app offline.

SideEye keeps downloaded areas, their names and boundaries, download progress, and map or road caches on the device. These can reveal places of interest. The app does not automatically save a timeline of your navigation trips, but caches, saved areas, and route exports still contain location-related information.

5. Local diagnostics and exports

SideEye automatically keeps local diagnostic journals about scanning, classifications, notifications, and app or background state. They include timestamps, settings, session identifiers, signal-strength and classification details, and advertised device names. These journals are separate from History and are not automatically sent to us.

You can share signal summaries and export selected History records, including their identifiers, timestamps, evidence, and saved drone summaries. The separate Bluetooth advertisement JSON export contains recent detailed radio broadcasts. Those broadcasts can include signal identifiers and names and drone Remote ID messages with exact aircraft or operator positions. Route diagnostic exports can contain precise origins and destinations, route geometry, requested areas, planning results, and errors. Map and downloaded-area exports contain map features, geographic coverage, and associated source and download information.

Exporting a file creates a local copy. Copying, saving to Files, or sharing through another app is your choice. The destination you select can upload or synchronize that copy under its own settings and privacy policy. Exporting does not automatically send us a copy. Review files before sharing because they can contain information about other people as well as your own activities.

Clearing History does not recall shared files or clear copied information from the clipboard. Opening an external website also sends a request to that website; this app policy does not describe the website's separate cookies or logging.

6. Notifications, widgets, and Live Activities

SideEye uses local notifications and locally updated Live Activities for monitoring and navigation. It does not send your observations to a Standridge Software push-notification server. The widget reads shared storage on your device containing monitoring and snooze status, update times, and the latest detection summary, including its confidence and a drone's relative distance and bearing when available.

SideEye notifications work only while your iPhone's screen is on. Your phone can be locked as long as its screen stays on; notifications do not work when the screen is off.

Signal notifications and repeat-pattern notifications are off by default. Signal Tracker Live Activities and their signal-name display are on by default, subject to iOS availability and settings. Notifications and Live Activities can show signal names or classifications, monitoring information, destinations, or navigation instructions on the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. Someone who can see your screen can see those details. Notification previews, Signal Tracker name settings, and Live Activity controls let you limit what appears.

7. Tips, reviews, and Apple reports

Optional tips use Apple's App Store payment system. Apple handles payment information. SideEye receives product and transaction information, verifies transactions, and keeps limited pending-purchase and recent-transaction state locally. The app checks unfinished purchases and listens for transaction updates automatically when it starts. Clearing a pending status in SideEye does not cancel a purchase with Apple. SideEye does not receive payment-card details or send receipts to a Standridge Software payment server.

SideEye stores local session and prompt-timing information to decide when to request an App Store review. Apple handles ratings and reviews you submit; published reviews are visible to others.

Apple's platform reporting is separate from SideEye's local journals. Apple offers app usage, crash, and sales reports to developers under its platform rules; usage and diagnostic sharing depend on the relevant Apple settings. See Apple's reporting information and Device Analytics & Privacy. You can review device analytics choices in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

8. Contacting us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message, and any attachments or details you include. This lets us respond to your question or privacy request and investigate a problem you report. We use Zoho Mail as our email service provider to receive, store, and manage this correspondence. Zoho processes message content on our behalf; its service providers and authorized staff can also process it as described in Zoho's privacy policy. Your own mail provider separately handles delivery through its service.

Providing a support message is voluntary. We need a way to reply and enough information to understand your request, but a diagnostic attachment is not required for a general privacy question. If you omit information needed to investigate a particular problem, we may be unable to resolve it. Share only relevant details and remove unnecessary information about yourself or other people before sending a file.

You can ask about, correct, or request deletion of information you have sent us by contacting privacy@standridgesoftware.com. Deleting data in the app does not delete an email or attachment already sent to us or someone else.

9. Retention, deletion, and backups

History. The default retention setting is 30 days, adjustable from 1 to 180 days. Retention uses the last observation time: a signal repeatedly seen can remain while its latest observation is within that window. Storage and record limits can remove information earlier. Pruning happens when SideEye loads and manages History; it is not a scheduled deletion that runs while the app is closed. Clear History removes saved encounters and related monitoring-coverage and pattern information. New encounters can be saved if scanning continues.

Other local data. History retention does not govern preferences, ignored or muted identifiers, downloaded maps, caches, notification state, purchase state, or diagnostic journals. Preferences remain until changed or reset. Downloaded areas have separate delete controls. Diagnostics rotate by size, not age: each journal keeps a current and previous file, with an 8 MiB limit per file. Creating another route export triggers cleanup of older temporary route-export files. Other temporary exports remain subject to app or iOS cleanup. Copies saved elsewhere follow that destination's retention.

Support and privacy correspondence. We retain messages and attachments only while reasonably necessary to resolve your request, handle relevant follow-up or disputes, and satisfy applicable legal obligations. We consider whether the issue remains open, whether relevant follow-up or a dispute is still reasonably expected, and whether a particular record must be kept by law. We review whether information is still needed and delete or anonymize it when it is no longer needed for those purposes. Information retained for a legal obligation or dispute is limited to what is necessary and used only for that purpose. Removing a message from our active mailbox does not guarantee immediate removal from every provider backup or recovery system; those copies remain subject to the provider's retention and deletion processes.

Deletion controls. Open Settings → Data & Privacy → Privacy & data use → Manage on-device data for History and signal-reset controls. Use Settings → Data & Privacy → Offline maps to remove downloaded map data. Map clearing preserves request-limit information used to avoid excessive downloads. These controls do not erase every kind of local data, and there is no public control for clearing diagnostic journals. Clear delivered notifications separately in iOS. Deleting the app removes its app data; offloading it preserves documents and data. Neither action recalls exported copies, existing backups, correspondence, or Apple's purchase records.

Backups. SideEye marks saved History, its local diagnostic-journal folders, downloaded-area packages, and resumable-download storage for exclusion from ordinary device backups. Other preferences, shared widget state, and some caches can be included in device or iCloud backups. This is separate from SideEye's lack of its own cloud synchronization. Export destinations can also synchronize files. Manage external copies and backups through the relevant device or service settings. See Apple's backup information.

SideEye uses iOS file protection for History and diagnostic storage, and HTTPS for its direct online map-data requests. These protections do not make exported files or another service's storage subject to the app's local controls.

10. Your choices, rights, and international privacy

You can stop scanning or navigation, change permissions, and use the local viewing, export, and deletion controls described above. Standridge Software cannot retrieve information that remains only on your device.

Purposes and lawful bases. Where EEA or UK data-protection law applies to our processing, we use the basis appropriate to the particular information and purpose. For information about an app user, performance of our agreement with that user is the basis where processing is necessary to provide a requested feature or fulfill a support obligation. This can include the information needed to provide a requested route or resolve a product-support issue. For other enquiries, troubleshooting, service security, and relevant disputes, we rely on our legitimate interests in responding to people, maintaining a reliable service, and establishing or defending legal claims, only where those interests are not overridden by the person's rights. We rely on compliance with a legal obligation for processing required by applicable law, including responding to statutory privacy requests. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

Nearby-device information is separate. These observations come from public Bluetooth or Remote ID broadcasts, as described in section 2. An app user's agreement or device permissions do not provide consent from the people whose signals are observed. For nearby-device information processed under our responsibility, we rely on legitimate interests in helping users understand nearby signals and diagnosing the app's handling of those signals, only where processing is necessary and those interests are not overridden by the rights of the people concerned. Local processing, limited saved drone details, retention controls, and the absence of automatic observation uploads limit this use. Public availability does not make every use lawful. In particular, repeat observations and precise broadcast positions can affect other people's privacy, including children's privacy. This policy does not authorize users to identify, track, publish information about, or otherwise process other people unlawfully.

Your rights. Depending on the law that applies, you may request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of personal information; restriction of processing; or portability of information you provided where processing is automated and based on consent or contract. You may also have a right to appeal a refusal or have an authorized agent act for you. Contact privacy@standridgesoftware.com with enough information to identify your request. We may request proportionate information to verify identity or authority and protect other people's information. We will explain any applicable exception or refusal and how to challenge it. We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right. These rights apply to information about nearby people as well as app users when the law provides them; we cannot remotely access or erase another user's local records.

Right to object. Where we rely on legitimate interests, you can object to processing of your personal information for reasons related to your situation by contacting the privacy address above. We will stop that processing unless applicable law permits continued processing on compelling grounds or for legal claims. If processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw it through the relevant app or iOS controls or by contacting us. Device permissions control access to device features; they do not replace any additional consent required by law.

Automated classifications. SideEye automatically classifies signals and estimates proximity as described in section 2. Standridge Software does not use those classifications to make decisions about a person's legal rights or eligibility for services.

Service providers and international processing. We handle support and privacy requests from our business in the United States. Zoho processes our correspondence on our behalf and describes processing in the United States, the EEA, and other countries where it operates. Its published policy describes contractual safeguards for covered international transfers and how to request copies. Contact us for information about the locations and safeguards applicable to correspondence we handle. Laws in another country may provide different protections from those in your country. Sending us a message is not a waiver of your privacy rights or blanket consent to international transfers.

Apple and the independently operated Overpass service handle the requests described in sections 4 and 7 for their respective services. They determine their own service processing, security, and retention practices. Services you choose for exports also handle information under their own practices. Their processing can take place outside your country. Contact those operators about information they hold for their own purposes; contact us about our use of information, including correspondence held for us by Zoho.

Complaints. You can complain to the privacy regulator with authority over your information. EEA residents can find their authority through the European Data Protection Board; UK residents can contact the Information Commissioner's Office. Information about applicable Colorado rights and complaints is available from the Colorado Attorney General. You do not have to contact us before approaching a regulator.

If you are a parent or guardian with a concern about a child's information sent to us, contact the privacy address above. Bluetooth broadcasts can relate to people of any age; their public availability does not make them anonymous.

11. Policy changes

The date at the top identifies this policy version. The public policy address is standridgesoftware.com/sideeye/privacy. An updated policy does not replace consent where the law requires consent to a change in processing.
